KELLER VOLUNTEERS RECOGNIZED BY STATE ORGANIZATION

Helen Keller Hospital proudly congratulates Jordan Fleming, who was named Alabama Hospital Association's 2013 Outstanding Teenage Volunteer at the recent Alabama Council of Hospital Auxiliaries' fall conference in Eufala, AL. Jordan has worked as a teen volunteer at Helen Keller Hospital since 2012. She is the daughter of David and Pam Fleming. Jordan was nominated by a fellow Keller Volunteer for her dedication to the hospital, as well as work in giving back to the community. During her volunteer time at Helen Keller Hospital, Jordan has worked over 340 hours of volunteer service. Jordan also is active in the Deshler Honor Society, Builders Club, Gifted Class, Tuscumbia Kiwanis, Sheffield Kiwanis, Calvary Baptist Church, Tennis Team, Cheerleading, Diamond Dolls, Keller Foundation, Colbert Caring Center Food Drive, Key Club, Bellezza Bella, and Big Brothers Big Sisters. She has served as a People to People Ambassador to Washington DC and as Book Drive Chairman for Headstart. This award is given to one teenage volunteer each year in the state who has exemplified hard work, leadership, and dedication to hospital volunteerism. Jordan was selected from a pool of nominations submitted from around the state. Also at the state conference, Helen Keller Hospital Volunteer Shirley Brocato was installed as the State District 1 Chairman for 2013-14. Shirley is in her second term as District Chairman for North Alabama. Under the Alabama Council of Hospital Auxiliaries, the state is divided into four districts. Shirley presides over 13 hospitals in her district. She has been an active adult volunteer at Helen Keller Hospital for 14 years, serving the Auxiliary Board in many capacities, such as President, Vice-President, Historian, and Member-at-Large. Shirley has also served as Gift Shop Manager and Gift Shop Buyer. "We are so proud of our hard-working, committed volunteers at Helen Keller Hospital," said Doug Arnold, president and CEO of Helen Keller Hospital. "Having two of our volunteers recognized on the state level is a reflection on the dedication of our volunteers."
