Efficient ER Services in Sheffield, AL

At Helen Keller Hospital, we understand that when a health emergency arises, you need quality medical services right away. We strive to offer shorter emergency room wait times and attentive, comprehensive care for our patients.

Benefits of Helen Keller's Emergency Room

Depending on the severity of your health emergency, the first step in the ER is registration. Here, the patient will provide insurance information and medical history. If the patient's symptoms are life-threatening, however, this step may be postponed. After registration, the patient is seen by a triage nurse to determine the severity of his or her symptoms. This is followed by an examination by an ER physician, who will diagnose and prescribe appropriate treatment.

At Helen Keller Hospital, we offer bedside registration and triage visits, and we have 50% more physician coverage than other facilities. If you experience a medical emergency, rely on our emergency services for efficient, compassionate care.

When to Go to an Emergency Room

Certain symptoms indicate a medical emergency. If you or a loved one experiences any one of those listed below, seek treatment immediately.

Severe pain anywhere in the body
A sudden inability to speak, see, move, or walk
Sudden weakness or drooping on one side of the body
Pain in the arm or jaw

Also, seek immediate treatment for high fevers that don't respond to analgesics, possible poisoning or drug/alcohol overdose, throwing up or loose stools that do not go away, severe allergic reactions, serious burns or deep wounds, possible broken bones, heavy bleeding, confusion, trouble breathing, or fainting.

If you experience any of the following health emergencies, call 911 for our EMS team to come to you.
