What is the Difference in HomeHealthcare and Hospice Care?Home Healthcare and Hospice Care are unique programs each designed to address different patient needs. Home healthcare is intended to assist patients in recuperating from an illness, surgery or accident and will most likely be used on an intermittent basis for a short period of time. The primary goal of home healthcare is recovery.

Hospice is a program which provides supportive care for terminally ill patients, their families and friends. Hospice deals with the emotional, spiritual, and physical needs of those who are in an end stage illness and their loved ones.

Who is Eligible for Home Healthcare?Patients who meet the following criteria may be qualified to
receive home healthcare.

• Under the care of a physician. (Hospitalization is not required.)

• Qualified for Home Health benefits under Medicare (Does not count against allowable days and pays for most services at 100%) Medicaid, Worker's Compensation, or Private Health Insurance.

• Medicare requires the patient to be homebound. Many payment sources do not carry the homebound requirement. (Call for more information)

• In need of skilled care on a short term intermittent basis.

Who is Eligible for Hospice Care?Although referrals may be made by anyone, the patient's physician must certify that thepatient's condition is terminal and that if the disease runs its normal course life expectancyis limited. Hospice patients are not required tobe homebound.
