Helen Keller Hospital hosts and/or sponsors the following support groups on its campus:

BETTER BREATHERS ORGANIZATION
The Better Breathers Organization meets on the fourth Tuesday of each month at 11:30 a.m. at the Keller Wellcare Center. Kristie Swinney, RRT, is coordinator for this group. There is no cost involved in participating in this group.

The Better Breathers Organization is a support group to provide support, information, and understanding for those with lung problems. This group benefits those suffering from asthma, emphysema, chronic bronchitis, cystic fibrosis, asbestosis, or lung cancer. There is no charge for participating in the Better Breathers group. Each program includes lunch at no charge, along with an educational program.

LOOK GOOD . . . FEEL BETTER
This group is for women who are currently undergoing cancer treatment. Keller proudly brought the first Look Good . . . Feel Better program to this area in January 2002.

Look Good . . . Feel Better meets on the third Monday of each month from 10:00 am until 12:00 noon in the Keller Education Department. This program is offered at no charge by the American Cancer Society, the Cosmetic, Toiletry and Fragrance Association Foundation, the National Cosmetology Association, and Helen Keller Hospital. Licensed cosmetologists and skin care specialists teach participants to cope with appearance-related side effects, such as hair loss and changes in skin color and condition. Make-up, wigs and scarves are provided. Advance registration is required to assure your make-up kit. Call Community Relations at 386-4107 for additional information.

The Healing Place
The Healing Place is a non-profit facility that provides on-going education and support programs for grieving children, adolescents, and their families/caregivers. The programs, services and contact information for The Healing Place are listed below.

  • Grief support programs for children and their parents/caregivers
  • Support programs for children who have a loved one with a life-threatening illness
  • Education and training programs
  • On-site crisis intervention for schools
  • Resources available to the community
